Property overview
An exclusive but central location on Ireland's Western seaboard in Gort, Co. Galway, Galway Bay Castle was designed by John Nash who worked on Buckingham Palace. The estate has been privileged to host discerning guests such as His Royal Highness Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall Camilla, Irish President Michael D Higgins, Bob Geldof, Lady Augusta Gregory and WB Yeats. The countryside surrounding Galway bay Castle holds many a story, dating back centuries.
Accommodation
Galway Bay Castle is a stunning self-catering private family home that can accommodate up to 17 guests in 9 luxurious bedrooms, with an additional 10 in the courtyard for a total of 27 guests on the estate. An abundance of activities can be enjoyed on the castle grounds such as Boating and fishing on Europe's largest privately held lake, private biking and walking trails, afternoon tea, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting & seasonal pheasant hunting.
Location
Small and walkable, Galway City has numerous artisanal cafes, local boutiques and quaint pubs where music spills out onto the streets. In the mouth of Galway Bay you will find its “gatekeepers” – The Aran Islands. A true Irish experience awaits, locals speak Irish as well as English in a setting of Celtic churches of historical significance including World Heritage site Dun Aonghasa which is set on dramatic 300 ft cliff edge. Heading west from Galway city, the villages of Connemara will stretch out before you like a colourful road map of communities and hidden gems just waiting to be explored. Each town or village has its own distinct character and local culture. The diversity of the landscape and the people who populate it offers much to you. Connemara is the area of Western Galway & South Mayo bounded by the Atlantic & Lough Corrib. It is an area beloved by artists & poets who find magical inspiration in its wide-open bogs and towering cloud-capped mountains. Cottages nestle into hillsides where wild looking sheep with thick fleeces & great curling horns freely graze. The rugged coastline is punctuated with little fishing villages. Learn about the Irish Bodhran, the Irish drum in Roundstone and visit the Duc de Stacpoole at the Roundstone Art Gallery. Killary Harbour, a glacial fjord, can be explored on a local cruise. Kylemore Abbey is amazingly beautiful and has a recently restored Victorian garden. Be sure to follow the Sky Road into Clifden, and if you have time visit some of the coral beaches out towards Roundstone.
