Experience Overview
Embark on an adventurous photographic journey with seasoned professional photographer Marc Richardson, that captures a traditional way of island and river life whilst you immerse in the awe-inspiring rugged landscapes of Ireland's western seaboard. Along the way, visit hidden islands and iconic castles and enjoy private performances from traditional Irish award winning musicians and singers. These stunning locations have been handpicked, and are sure to bring a wealth of varied photographic opportunities for budding photographers.
The journey starts with a welcome reception and dinner at the Merrion Hotel in Dublin on Thursday the 11th of April and culminates on Monday the 15th of April at Shannon or Dublin Airport with optional pre and post-touring on request. The experience will be hosted by Siobhan Byrne, Ireland specialist and founder of Adams & Butler and Marc Richardson will be your photographic professional throughout.
Marc has had the privilege, the access, and the passion to capture moments in time that may never exist again. Born into a celebrated New Orleans family of musicians, Marc launched his journey into the world of photography two decades ago with special access to both emerging artists and legends of the industry. In Ireland, Marc takes advantage of the abundance of extraordinary landscape and traditional cultural photographic opportunities.
Whether an iconic musician, a stunning landscape, breathtaking wildlife or meaningful portraits, Marc’s goal is to capture that moment that transports you to that exact moment in time. His quest is for that image that captures the very essence of what it was like to be there at that time, allowing someone else to experience that same incredible moment.
The price is €7,520 per person sharing a double or twin occupancy and a single occupancy is €8,363.
The price includes all meals, accommodation, privately guided tours, a welcome reception with dinner at the Merrion Hotel, falconry at Dromoland, a private photographic professional throughout, private performances by musicians and singers, a private yacht cruise along the Shannon River, private visits with artisans and to private homes, tastings, as well as a domestic flight and ferry, all taxes, and wine or beer at lunchtime.
Irish Photographic Journey Itinerary
Dublin
Meet your fellow travellers at a welcome reception and dinner at the Merrion Hotel in Dublin. If you would like to come a day or two earlier to Ireland, we can arrange optional private touring for you.
Dinner & Overnight at the Merrion Hotel.
Clare
After breakfast leave Dublin City behind and set off for the West of Ireland.
Arriving at Killaloe, we will enjoy a private yacht cruise on the Shannon Lakelands. Get to see the parts of Ireland many rarely do and enjoy a diverse range of experiences as you discover a ‘secret’ Ireland. Gain exclusive access to a range of unique locations and extraordinary private properties, combined with a burst of genuine Irish hospitality as you meet the locals. Fuse these locations with elements of Irish art, architecture, castles, culture & more with a carefully chosen selection of locally sourced artisan food & drink tasting experiences. With exclusive access, this is a true private behind-the-scenes taste of Ireland like never before. You will have various shooting opportunities throughout the day.
Returning by yacht to Killaloe we set off for Dromoland Castle. On arrival at Dromoland Castle, you will enjoy one of the prettiest and most delightful experiences that guests can enjoy. Cameras and tissues at the ready!
Dinner & Overnight at Dromoland Castle.
Inis Oirr
Depart early from Dromoland Castle towards the Cliffs of Moher, which we will access privately away from the hoards. After a quick visit to the Burren Smokehouse to sample premium smoked salmon and gravlax, we will take a short 20 minute ferry crossing from Doolin to Inis Oirr, the smallest but the most charming of the three Aran Islands. On arrival we will enjoy a traditional pub lunch.
The afternoon will be spent discovering both historical and more contemporary points of interest on the island which you will be photographing. We will take advantage of the golden hour on the island and will have a model at hand.
Our dinner host will be Alissa Donoghue, a native of Wisconsin but happily settled on the island for over 20 years and a fluent Irish Gaelic speaker to boot! Tonight we will be entertained by young Irish traditional musicians of the year 2019 and 2021 – Connor Connolly and Sorcha Costello.
Optional evening at a local pub.
Overnight at a traditional island Bed & Breakfast. Bear in mind that we are on an island so the accommodation will be appreciated more for a sense of place rather than for its luxuriousness. You will be staying amongst the locals as a local. It will also give you the opportunity to meander and capture your own moments of island life, late in the evening and early in the morning.
Galway
Depart Inis Oirr at 10.30 am for the larger Inis Mor Island, a voyage of 30 minutes. This island will offer a completely different type of location and points of interest to capture. Inis Mor has a much more dramatic and rugged landscape, whereas Inis Oirr has sandy beaches and a very laid-back vibe.
Transport will be provided by local brothers in a land defender which will take clients off road to truly appreciate the island terrain. Our route will take us over roads not accessible by other vehicles. Stunning, dramatic landscapes await without any other human distraction, amongst which is the set of the Oscar-nominated movie – ‘The Banshees of Inisheerin’. The morning culminates in a visit to a natural occurring idle pool wormhole off the cliffs on the south side of the island.
After a light lunch, we will take a short 8-minute flight from Inis Mor to the mainland, touching down in Connemara. Tour of Connemara en route to Ballynahinch Castle for dinner and overnight.
