Property overview
Nestled in an idyllic part of the Scottish Borders, Lauder Castle is a magnificent 16th-century castle surrounded by a meadow landscape. As well as being the seat of the Duke of Lauderdale, it has been home to the Maitland-Carew family for over 400 years. During your stay you will see the intricate 17th-century Dunsterfield plasterwork ceilings in the State Rooms and be surrounded by one of the most complete collections of family portraits in the country. Distinguished guests and royalty have been hosted here over the centuries and now it is your turn to make Lauder Castle your home during your stay in the Scottish Borders.
Accommodation
The accommodation consists of eight bedrooms split into five apartments and has been finished to a five-star standard with exceptional views of the parkland and estate. The apartments can either be taken individually or by a group and can sleep up to eighteen people. The rooms have been decorated in a classic but contemporary style with items from the castle collections including portraits and furniture and all bedrooms have their own luxurious bathroom. All rooms have a king-seized or super king-sized beds with some bedrooms able to be set up as twin rooms. Dine in the castle’s portrait-lined State Dining Room or rustic Victorian Kitchen, looked after by award-winning caterers. Each apartment also has its own kitchen and sitting room should guests wish to self-cater.
Scottish Borders
The Scottish Borders is perfectly positioned as perhaps the easiest destination in Scotland to reach; Edinburgh & The Lothians lie to the north, Dumfries & Galloway to the west, and Northumberland in northern England to the south.
As you explore, let the scenery make its impression on you, from rolling hills and open countryside in the west to the gentle valleys and picturesque Berwickshire coastline in the east. The region is defined as much by the landscape as it is by its spellbinding abbeys, awe-inspiring stately homes and castles, and the time-honoured and truly unique Common Ridings. It's really no surprise that these lands inspired the works of literary greats like Sir Walter Scott and John Buchan.
But what will surprise you is that there are plenty of thrills to be had for those who dare; adrenaline-pumping mountain biking can be experienced at two world-class 7stanes centres, plus there's off-road quad biking, archery, surfing and treetop adventures - not to mention some of the very best cycling and walking opportunities you'll find in Scotland. Keep the pace leisurely with a round of golf or cast your line as you try angling on the rivers. Whatever you choose to do, you'll find that the Scottish Borders really is a most wonderful place to unwind and get away from it all.
